Peter and Taria Bambling
Just off the Bruce Highway in Scotchy Pocket, our farm Scotchy Pocket Passions is where my family and I spend our days growing passionfruit. I used to work in construction, but with a family history in sugarcane and small crops, farming was always in my blood. Three years ago, Taria and I took the leap into passionfruit, and we haven’t looked back.
We’ve got 100 acres and about 4,000 vines of Swanco and J.E Tipper Passion Burst™. With the help of two part-timers, Taria and I juggle farm life while raising our two kids, Ardy and baby Zaylia.
Farming passionfruit has been incredibly rewarding. I love seeing how the plants respond to the weather and the effort we put in—but it’s definitely had its challenges. The weather, staffing, and the massive learning curve have kept me on my toes. Experience takes time, and I’m learning every day.
Our fruit heads to the Brisbane Markets, and right now we’re focusing on keeping things steady—mastering what we grow and improving each season. Soil health and long-term productivity are big priorities, especially with our water coming from the Mary River scheme.
