Brian & Irene Westwood

Brian and Irene have a large property near Mutchilba on the Atherton tablelands in far north Queensland.  Under the clear blue skies, Brian grows a range of crops from passionfruit to mangoes.

Brian started from scratch many years ago and has built up an incredible bank of experience, but he retains his willingness to experiment and try new ways of doing things.  Brian grows Panama style passionfruit across a series of different trellising systems including overhead, standard vertical trellis and some ‘T’ trellis.

When he has an idea, he explores it thoroughly and gives it a go.  That approach may have taken him down the odd dead end occasionally, but overall it has brought him great success as a farmer over the years.

Brian & Irene are staunch supporters of the passionfruit industry – generous with their time and expertise, and always manage to fit in trips to the meetings and regional field days even when they are held in the southern growing areas.  It probably helps that they have young grandchildren just north of Brisbane who love visits from their grandparents!
